Jo Oakley

Although Jo originally hails from South-East London, she has had a deep connection with the East Kent Coast all her life. Childhood holidays set in motion her love of the Thames estuary and Jo now lives and works in her own gallery ‘She Rose’ in Herne Bay-a beautiful unspoilt space of constant inspiration.

Jo’s paintings are a mixture of memory and still life study. The forms and textures of the surface of the paintings are built up in layers using gesso in the preliminary stages. She is drawn to faded turquoise, blues and greens in every hue in pursuit of the fading light of a certain season trying to evoke its unique qualities.

Jo’s interest and practice in printmaking has bought her in recent years to Lino through which her unique and imaginary world of sea dwelling folk has emerged.
